To coin a phrase from Arsenio Hall, there are some things that make me say "hhhmmm". The latest thing, that for the life of me I can't figure out [although admittedly, I have not spent a considerable amount of time pondering it] is why other Christians are bashing other Christians.
Why does one denomination think they are better than another? Why does one group of young adults feel they have attained the in road to worship? Why are the older generation stuck in their traditions? We all call ourselves Christians, but my question is, do you know what that word means?
Yesterday at church our Pastor gave us the meaning again. The meaning of 'ian' at the end of the word Christian means; to be a party of or pertaining to. So basically, that means that we are a party of or pertain to Christ. The word Christian was first used [Acts 11] at the Syrian Antioch church. After a whole year of teaching by Barnabas and Saul, the townspeople called their disciples Christians. The reason is very clear. They were followers, imitators of Christ.
The reason I'm saying "hhhmmm" is because many of us seem to have forgotten all about 1 Corinthians 13. If the greatest of these is love and those of us who have believed by faith in the Son Jesus, how then can there be criticism of even the smallest thing?
What does the world see when they know that you are yet another person calling themselves a Christian? How are we different from the Mormons or JW's? How will your co-workers, family or neighbors know that you are a Christian? Will you be able to tell them what you believe, why you believe and the difference between others that call themselves a christian?
Am I saying to let there be tolerance at the level the world pushes on us? No. What I am saying is that if we are fighting with each other, who is reaching the lost?
